The Atonement Academy Announces New Head of School

Rev. Mark Lewis, Pastor for Our Lady of The Atonement Catholic Church, announced the hiring of The Atonement Academy’s new Head of School, Matthew David Watson.

Mr. Watson has a strong academic background with a Masters in Education from Harvard University, specializing in teaching and curriculum. He also holds a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Educational Administration from Vanderbilt University.

He has spent more than 15 years in education, and from 2011-2014 he was Dean of Houses at St. John XXIII College Preparatory School in Katy, Texas. He currently serves as the Assistant Headmaster and Dean of Academics at Aristoi Classical Academy, also in Katy. Mr. Watson and his wife Jennifer are the proud parents of five children (ages 4 – 13), and a baby boy due in the next few days.

Mr. Watson’s current Superintendent, Ms. Brenda Davidson, had this to say in a letter of recommendation for Mr. Watson:

“Throughout the development of the high school, Matt has modeled motivation, excellent teaching skills, and a clear vision for classical education. Matt is an intellectual leader who speaks eloquently and persuasively. He has written the scope and sequence for our high school, developed a university-style schedule for the junior and
senior high school, led and nurtured the faculty and staff, cultivated the upper school culture, and conducted himself with pride and humility as a person under and in authority. Matt has proven himself to possess the
perseverance, initiative, and intellectual creativity necessary to lead.”
